About Airline
Air Iceland Connect previously known as Flugfélag Íslands, is a regional airline that operates scheduled flights out of its headquarters, Reykjavík Airport (RKV) in Reykjavík, Iceland. The airline was founded in 1937 as Flugfélag Akureyrar and changed its name to Flugfélag Íslands in 1940 which was the third airline to have this name after the other two ceased operations. Flugfélag Íslands merged with Loftleiðir in 1973 under the name Flugleiðir hf. Its domestic division was named Flugleiðir and its transatlantic division was called Icelandair. Flugfélag Íslands changed its branding to Air Iceland Connect in mayo 2017 due to increased exposure to international markets and foreigners.
In febrero 2018, Air Iceland Connect announced a new strategy to concentrate more on regional destinations. Flights to the UK had to therefore be reduced in 2018. Air Iceland Connect currently operates 15 scheduled, seasonal and codeshare flights within Iceland, Greenland and Denmark.
In total, the airline has a fleet of 5 turboprop aircraft ranging from all from Bombadiers that can in total carry 259 passengers at one time.
