Historia

Air Rarotonga is an airline based in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. The airline's main hub is at Rarotonga International Airport. It operates scheduled flights throughout the Cook Islands and charter flights to French Polynesia, Niue, Samoa and Tonga. Excluding charter flights, Air Rarotonga flies to between five and 10 destinations.

Air Rarotonga was founded in 1978 and flew its inaugural flight the same year. The airline codeshares with Air Tahiti on flights between Rarotonga and Papeete, with flights operated by the latter.

 


Fleet

Air Rarotonga has a fleet made up of a variety of aircraft. It uses regional jets such as the Saab 340B+, Embraer EMB110P1 Banderiante, Cessna Citation II and Cessna 172. Overall, it has more than five planes within its fleet.

 


Destinations

As of enero 2020, Air Rarotonga flies to 10 destinations. This includes a codeshare service that is operated by Air Tahiti on behalf of Air Rarotonga

Carry-On Baggage

The free carry-on baggage allowance depends on the route flown and is as follows:

All carry-on baggage must not exceed the dimensions of 45 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm (17" x 13" x 7") and must be able to fit either under the seat of the aircraft or in the overhead locker.

The free checked baggage allowance depends on the route flown and is as follows:

Air Rarotonga doesn't offer online check-in for its flights at this time.

Airport Check-In

Airport check-in can be completed by visiting one of the airline check-in desks at the airport of departure. Check-in closes 45 minutes before scheduled flight departure time. However, it's recommended that passengers arrive for check-in at the airport well in advance. 

 


Economy Class

Due to the short flights and small aircraft that Air Rarotonga flies with, the airline has just one cabin class — Economy Class.

Facilities

Passengers are served a complimentary drink on the flight and have the option to purchase additional snacks and beverages.

Seats

Economy Class seats are set out in either a 1 x 2 formation or 1 x 1 formation.

 


In-Flight Entertainment

There's no in-flight entertainment system onboard Air Rarotonga flights.

 


WIFI

There's no WIFI network installed on Air Rarotonga aircraft.

 


Food

Passengers are served complimentary water, coffee and tea on flights. In addition to this, passengers can purchase other soft drinks and light refreshments, such as cheese and crackers. On select flights, passengers are also given a complimentary sweet snack.

 


Frequent Flyer

Air Rarotonga doesn't have a frequent flyer program in place that rewards its regular passengers for flying with the airline.

Air Rarotonga isn't part of an airline alliance. However, it does have codeshare agreements with both Air Tahiti and Air New Zealand.

Rarotonga International Airport

Rarotonga International Airport (RAR) is an international airport in the Cook Islands and the hub airport for Air Rarotonga. The airport is the main gateway to the Cook Islands. It has one runway and one terminal building.

Air Rarotonga is currently the only airline that uses Rarotonga International as its hub. Other airlines which fly to and from this airport include Air New Zealand, Air Tahiti, Jetstar Airways and Virgin Australia
