Uganda Airlines was the flag carrier of Uganda, established 1976, and started operations in 1977. In the late 1990s, the airline was in a delicate cash position. The Government of Uganda attempted to privatise the company, but after all potential bidders pulled out, Uganda Airlines Corporation sadly went into liquidation in mayo 2001.
In 2018, it was reported that the Cabinet of Uganda has re-launch Uganda Airlines, with six new jets. This will be possible due to an equity investment by the goverment, as well as loans borrowed from regional lenders, including the Trade and Development Bank. In abril 2019 the airline received two bombardier CRJ900 aircraft, and an order of Airbus A330-800neo is in place.
Air Uganda plans to re-commence operations with the following aircraft, accurate as of abril 2019:
Airbus A330-800neo (two orders placed)
Bombardier CRJ900ER (Two existing, with an additional two orders placed).
Destinations for the new operations have yet to be announced. However, historically, Air Uganda flew to the following destinations:
Air Uganda also flew to numerous domestic destinations within Uganda, including: Entebbe/Kampala, Gulu, Kasese, Mbarara, Soroti, and Tororo.
