There are several airlines that have removed their change and cancellation fees to give passengers more flexibility. Although many airlines won't charge you any fees for making adjustments to your booking, you'll still need to pay the difference in fare. We advise that you read the cancellation and change policies of each airline before making a booking as they vary.
Please note that most airlines will let you cancel your flight ticket within 24 hours of booking, without any changes fees. This allows you to rebook your flight if you made a mistake with your name, dates or destination airport. If you want to cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking for a full refund, you can do so.
Alaska Airlines is one of the many airlines that have removed their change and cancellation fees. There are currently no change fees for Alaska Airlines First Class fares as well as Economy ticket holders.
American Airlines have scrapped cancellation fees to give passengers more flexibility for flights within the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Although American-operated flights don't have a change fee, the difference in fare still applies.
Delta Airlines has eliminated change fees for, tickets departing from the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean to anywhere in the world, except Basic Economy tickets.
Same-day flight changes will result in a $75 fee. However, Delta Gold, Platinum and Diamond Medallion members are exempt from the same-day rules.
Although Frontier Airlines is a low-cost airline, it gives its passengers some flexibility in changing their flights. Frontier Airlines allows passengers to make changes to their booking without any fees, 60 or more days prior to the departure. However, 7 to 59 days prior to the departure date, Frontier Airlines charges $49 to make any changes. If you wish to make any changes 6 days or less before the departure, you'll be charged $79.
Please note that you'll also need to pay for any additional fare difference. If your new flight itinerary happens to be cheaper than your original flight, you'll not receive a refund for the price difference.
There are no change or cancellation fees on JetBlue flights, except Blue Basic fares. Blue Basic ticket holders are subject to a change fee of around $100 per person for travel within North America, Central America, or the Caribbean. For all other routes, Blue Basic fares are subject to a change fee of $200 per person. Please note that a fare difference on the date of change will also be applied.
United Airlines has removed all of its change and cancellation fees for Economy, Economy Plus, First, Business and Premium Plus tickets within the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), and flights from the U.S. to Mexico and the Caribbean. For basic economy ticket holders, flight changes are not permitted.
Spirit Airlines is a US low-cost carrier that allows some flexibility for its passengers. Spirit Airlines offers no change fees for passengers looking to make changes to their booking 60 days or more before the departure date. However, from 59 days prior to the flight departure, Spirit Airlines will charge passengers a cancellation fee which can range between $49 and $100.
Please note that change fees will vary depending on how far out you are from your departure date and the destination to which you're flying.
