Alaska Airlines has to return flight to take-off spot due to naked passenger
The naked truth. Right here. With Alternative Airlines. An Alaska Airlines flight heading to Seattle had to make a return flight to Anchorage after a passenger locked himself in the bathroom, removed his garments and refused to abide by the crews instructions. The plane returned to Anchorage International Airport while flying near Prince William Sound. Kate Danyluk, a passenger on the flight, told The Associated Press she knew something was wrong because the flight attendants kept going back and forth in the aisles and had put on rubber gloves.
"Alaska Airlines flight 146 from Anchorage to Seattle returned to Anchorage due to a passenger not following flight attendant's instructions. While no emergency was declared, the decision was made to return to Anchorage," Alaska Airlines spokesman declared. Airport police and the FBI were there to greet the plane when it arrived at around 3:am in the morning. Police then boarded the plane and removed him from the back door. The flight then reboarded and continued onto Seattle. Not your usual flight!

Alaska Airlines announces it's ending service to Cuba
The Alaska aircraft used since the Havana route on enero 5, 2017 will soon be redeployed to serve destinations with higher demand.
"It really took off in March and sustained itself through July and the load factors got into the mid and high 80 percent, so we did a good job," he said. "But then we saw a precipitous drop off in traffic starting into the fall season. I'm sure that hurricane season didn't help as well but we really saw that the loads and the pent-up demand had exhausted itself, and we aren’t seeing any gains."
Kirby also cited the change in regulation last week that "people-to-people" travel for education is now no longer available. About 80 percent of Alaska’s flyers to Havana visited under that allowance. In June, The Trump administration announced a policy reversal would be coming to Cuba, stating changes made under President Obama would no longer apply.
"We really don't blame the administration," Kirby said. "We knew going in there was a very fluid environment, there is a risk."
When the airline launched its service to Cuba in January, it did so with limited data. Normally he explained that before launching any service they gather and analyze data, but there wasn't any data available for this market, since it didn't previously exist.
"We have people actually, literally on the ground today informing the Cuban officials," Kirby said. "We haven't gotten any feedback yet."
Last week, the White House announced a "blacklist" making dozens of Cuban hotels, shops, tour companies and other businesses off-limits to U.S. citizens due to links to Cuba's military, intelligence or security services. Still, the policy is only a partial rollback of Obama's changes. Cruise ship visits and direct commercial flights between the countries will still be permitted. Embassies in Washington and Havana stay open. Bringing home limited quantities of rum and Cuban cigars is still allowed, officials said.
"Cuba is still open for business," said Charel van Dam of the Cuba Travel Network. "It is still possible for people to travel, but I think these announcements will serve mainly as something to scare off people who want to visit."
But Kirby said this is the right decision for the company.
"This is like nothing else we’ve ever done before. I would characterize it as a success that we were able to start up in a place like Havana, successfully," he said.
Alaska has launched 44 routes this year and the majority are meeting or exceeding the airline’s load factor forecasts, the airline said. The company anticipates it will grow about 7.2 percent this year. As the airline looks ahead to 2018, its planning for nearly 8 percent network growth by adding capacity in primarily existing markets.

Alaska Airlines expands Albuquerque service with new flight
Alaska Airlines will add a second daily nonstop flight to Seattle from Albuquerque's International Sunport.
The new Seattle service will depart Seattle daily at 9:35 a.m., arriving in Albuquerque at 1:50 p.m., with return service leaving the Sunport at 7:59 p.m., arriving in Seattle at 10:11 p.m. The service starts Wednesday. The Seattle-based airline made the announcement over the weekend.
The Seattle flights will be operated by Horizon Air 76-seat Embraer 175 jets, which include 12 seats in first class, 12 seats in premium class and 52 seats in the main cabin.
The additional Seattle flight is Alaska Airlines’ fourth new nonstop destination to launch from New Mexico’s largest city since August.
“Alaska Airlines is thrilled to add San Diego to our growing list of nonstop destinations from Albuquerque,” said John Kirby, Alaska's vice president of capacity planning, in a statement. “With our expanded service to Seattle and new service to San Diego, we continue to invest in the Duke City.”
Earlier in October, Delta Air Lines announced it was adding Los Angeles to its list of nonstop flights from the Sunport. We recently chose that as Business First's Deal of the Week, noting that time is money, and more nonstop options to the West Coast could help New Mexico businesses make more money.
Air travel in Albuquerque is up 2% from this point last year, and the Sunport is in the midst of a $30 million project to renovate the Sunport's baggage claim, ticketing and curbside area by the end of 2018.

Alaska Airlines Takes Inaugural Flight from Indy to San Francisco
Flights from Indy to San Francisco will be served by Virgin America Airbus aircraft. Flights will arrive in Indy from San Francisco at 7:50 p.m., and depart from Indianapolis at 8:40 p.m.
United Airlines recently launched its second daily, nonstop flight to the Bay Area city, with an early morning departure and a late-afternoon return.
“This really is a significant milestone for Indianapolis and the airport; it’s a testament to how far the city has come in the past few years,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “In 2013, we landed the first San Francisco flight with hopes and effort invested in growing that route. Today we have three nonstop, daily flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles, year-round, nonstop flights into Seattle, and seasonal service to San Diego. That makes up a solid route of travel to the West Coast, with connections available into the Asia-Pacific region.”
Rodriguez said today’s flight is also a testament to Alaska Airlines’ investment in Indianapolis.
“Alaska Airlines is the newest airline to partner with the Indianapolis airport, delivering not one but two crucial routes in less than a year and opening up the door to a long unserved market with its Seattle flight,” said Rodriguez.
With the acquisition of Virgin America, Alaska Airlines is able to provide more aircraft and gates on the West Coast. The airline launched its inaugural flight from Indianapolis to Seattle in May.
The Indianapolis airport averages 143 daily flights, seasonally and year-round, to 48 nonstop destinations. Recently the IAA announced that Delta Airlines will launch the first nonstop, transatlantic flight from Indy to Paris in mayo 2018. It will be the first nonstop scheduled flight to Europe in the history of the Indianapolis International Airport.

Alaska Airlines named Official Airline of the San Francisco Giants
Alaska Airlines announced today that the company has signed an agreement to become the official airline of the San Francisco Giants for the next seven years, extending the partnership that Virgin America established with the organization in 2008. To celebrate this partnership and Alaska'scommitment to the Bay Area, the company unveiled the design for an Airbus 321 featuring the Giants logo and team colours that will begin flying early next year.
"Our commitment to San Francisco and our Bay Area employees has never been stronger and, as part of that, we're thrilled to extend the Giants sponsorship for the next seven years," said Andrew Harrison, chief commercial officer at Alaska Airlines. The Alaska/Giants partnership will also feature many fan-friendly components including:

Work begins on Paine Field to bring 9 Alaska Airlines flights to Everett
According to Mark Reichin, the Chief Operating Officer of Propeller Airports, they have begun pre-construction work which includes surveying, identifying the location for building footings, and locating utility lines; getting the site ready for construction. Construction is due to begin within the next few months.
Once construction begins, Reichin says that it will take roughly a year from start to finish before flights will take off and serve the community. From announcement to completion—that is a whirlwind.
“It’s exciting because it will promote economic growth in the county, provide eaiser access to flights,, while reducing county residents’ commute times when they do have to travel,” Reichin said.
When asked if the growth in the county and the growth of Paine Field will negatively impact commutes and cause congestion, Reichin said it’s actually the opposite.
“It will actually be the inverse,” Reichin said. “Commercial flights out of Paine Field will cut down on traffic heading toward SeaTac, reducing auto traffic on I-5 by flying locally from Paine Field. This airport will serve the local community and enable easier access to commercial air transportation.”
A shorter commute? Less traffic? It’s every traveler’s wish within this area who knows all too well how the drive is headed into SeaTac. And starting in the fall of 2018—that wish will come to fruition. More than a million North Sound residents will enjoy shorter commutes to the airport and up to nine daily departures.
“This will make it easier for so many people,” Reichin said. “And will make travel less stressful.”

Alaska Airlines is cutting early morning flights between Bethel and Anchorage from its Tuesday and Wednesday schedules.
The change will take effect a few weeks before Thanksgiving, and will reduce the total number of flights on those days from three to two. The company will still provide early morning flights to Anchorage on the other days of the work week.
According to Regional VP Marilyn Romano, Alaska Airlines took the YK Delta’s needs into account when they updated their schedule and worked to eliminate flights that weren’t as popular with residents.
“We really wanted to look at it almost by day to see what the travel patterns were for our customers, really wanted to be a little more thoughtful,” Romano said.
It is unclear if these schedule changes will be temporary or permanent. Romano said that the airline will evaluate the schedule later this winter and determine if any further changes should be made.
She explained that Alaska Airlines is upgrading its fleet, trading in its old combis for newer, larger planes. According to Romano, it might not be cost effective for them to fly larger planes into Bethel as often. She also noted that while the number of flights to Bethel will go down, the airline's new planes are large enough that the number of seats available to Bethel flyers will go up 23%.
These cuts could have been a lot worse. Several weeks ago, Alaska Airlines uploaded a schedule to its website that eliminated all of Bethel’s early morning flights this holiday season, raising concerns that residents would no longer be able to make day trips to Anchorage for work. Romano said that that schedule was incorrect and was uploaded by mistake.
Alaska Airlines announced it will commence scheduled operations from Paine Field.
Alaska Airlines has announced that it will operate flights out of Everett Paine Field airport starting in 2018. It will be the first commercial operations for the airfield, which is home to Boeing's Everett factory and an MRO facility operated by Aviation Technical Services. Alaska says it plans to operate nine daily flights from Paine Field with a mixture of B737 and EMB-175 aircraft, although route details are not yet available. Alaska Airlines still requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to clear it for flights from the airport.

"With our new service to Mexico City, we continue to grow our footprint in California by offering our valued guests nonstop flights to nine popular destinations throughout Mexico, more than any other U.S. carrier from California."

Alaska Airlines have announced plans to commence scheduled flights from a second Seattle-area airport in 2018
Alaska Airlines plan to fly Boeing 737 and Embraer 175 jets from Paine Field in Everett, Washington
Alaska plans to provide 9 daily flights from the airfield, which is adjacent to Boeing's widebody aircraft factory. Alaska has not yet specified the destinations.
"As our region continues to grow at a record pace and Sea-Tac Airport nears capacity, the time is right to bring air service to ... the North Sound," Alaska Airlines Chief Executive Brad Tilden said in a statement.
The move will relieve the carrier's dependence on Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which is not expected to add capacity for 10 years, Brett Smith, chief executive of Propeller Airports, which is building the terminal at Paine Field, told Reuters.
Sea-Tac, located 17 miles south of Seattle, handled 45.7 million passengers last year, making it the ninth busiest in the United States, according to the Port of Seattle website.
