U.K. travellers can now split their airfare into 4 instalments over 6 weeks, completely interest-free, by selecting Zip at checkout when booking flights through Alternative Airlines.

Alternative Airlines, a global flight search and booking site, has announced an exciting new partnership with Zip, a leading ‘buy now, pay later’ (BNPL) provider, to make it even more affordable for U.K. travellers to book their flights online.
Whether searching for domestic flights with any of the U.K.’s best-loved airlines, including British Airways and easyJet, or flights abroad to Europe, the U.S., or elsewhere in the world, U.K. travellers can search and book flights on over 600 global airlines and select Zip at checkout to split the cost into 4 interest-free instalments, paid over six weeks.
Before COVID-19 hit the nation, demand for instalment payment options was already on the rise in the U.K. But now, the impact of the pandemic has ushered in an unprecedented change in online shopping behaviour and encouraged even more towards the benefits of BNPL services.
Globally, more than 5.7 million people choose to pay with Zip online and in-store. It has grown rapidly in Australia and the U.S. — and recently announced its arrival in the U.K.
“We’re providing a new, flexible way to pay,” said Anthony Drury, U.K. Managing Director at Zip. “Brits are excited about the prospect of air travel and overseas holidays resuming. But at the moment people want flexibility as to when they book and how they pay. Our partnership with Alternative Airlines is a perfect fit for this consumer mindset – together we provide the ability to book quickly, with the option to spread full payment over weeks.”
Speaking on the announcement, Sam Argyle, Managing Director at Alternative Airlines, commented: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Zip. COVID-19 impacted the travel industry fiercely. But Alternative Airlines is still in a great position thanks to our dedication to meet the payment needs of our customers, letting them book flights how they want, when they want. By choosing Zip, travellers can be reassured that their flight bookings are confirmed, locking in today’s prices, without the pressure of having to pay the total cost upfront. For customers who are paid monthly, paying for flights in instalments can be more beneficial and convenient for budgeting, when compared to having to pay the full amount at checkout”.
Argyle added: “Flights aren’t always cheap, so — whether flying home to be with family, or heading on a break as routes begin to resume following the pandemic — flexibility in the way customers can pay is very important to us and continues to be a key driver behind our continued success. We share a vision with Zip and are looking forward to bringing BNPL to more and more customers, no matter where in the world they are based.”
To buy flights using Zip, travellers simply need to search for flights through Alternative Airlines and select Zip at checkout. Zip’s instant decisioning means the flight reservation can be confirmed immediately. The total cost is split into four equal payments, with the first 25 percent taken at the time of purchase and the remaining three payments taken over six weeks. What’s more, absolutely no interest is charged — customers will only pay the price that they see at checkout.
Zip is the latest to be added to Alternative Airlines’ growing list of payment options and is currently only available to U.K. residents on the travel website. To begin searching for flights, visit: www.alternativeairlines.com.
