BVI Airways is an airline based at the British Virgin Islands.
The airline's headquarters are based at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport which serves as the island of Tortola's main airport. In enero 2016, the Government of British Virgin Islands announced that it would be investing US$7 million into the airline.
BVI Airways was founded in 2009 and began operations in mayo 2010 by serving Beef Island to St Maarten route 3 x Weekly. In septiembre 2010, the airline commenced services to Dominica, on behalf of Winair.
In 2014, BVI Airways suspended operations between islands not long after a change in ownership. This was in order to focus on a non-stop schedule directly to the US.
In julio 2017, BVI Airways flew its first scheduled passenger flights. The Caribbean-based carrier launched a return service between Beef Island, British Virgin Islands, and Miami Int'l which flew its inaugural flight on 22 julio 2017 using ARJ-100 equipment.
Shortly after, BVI Airways launched its first-ever nonstop service between Tortola, British Virgin Islands and MIA, with two weekly roundtrip flights on Saturdays and Sundays. BVI Airways used aBAe Avro 146 RJ100 aircraft to serve the new route, which connects Miami to the British Virgin Islands' capital and largest island. Tortola became MIA's 40th Caribbean destination with nonstop service.
