Charleston International Airport is an airport in North Charleston, South Carolina that is used for both commercial and military flights. Although technically an international airport, the airport currently mainly facilitates domestic flights within the US on American carriers, with one seasonal transatlantic service to London on British Airways.

There are no airlines that currently use Charleston International as a hub.

The airport opened in the 1930s and has undergone a number of expansions and renovations, with the most notable coming with new terminal buildings in 1949 and 1987.

Charles International is one of the largest and busiest airports in North Carolina, second only to Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

The airport has two runways — runway 15/33 (2,744 m x 61 m) and runway 3/21 (2,134 m x 46 m), which are used both for commercial and military flights.


There is one main terminal building at Charleston International Airport, it has been expanded and renovated a number of times since the airport has existed. The current terminal building was last re-built in 1986 and underwent its last major renovation in 2016.

Departures and arrivals are located on the same floor. Post-security, the airport is split into two Concourses, each named by letter — Concourse A and Concourse B.

Concourse A is mainly used by Delta and Delta Connection, whereas other airlines at the airport use Concourse B.

How to get to Charleston International Airport

By driving

There a number of car rental companies at the airport, as well as parking facilities.

The airport can be reached from International Boulevard off of interstate 526.

By bus

Charleston's public bus company, CARTA, offers two different routes that connect Charleston International with downtown Charleston.

The XP4 bus routes is an express bus route that travels once an hour. Whereas route 11 travels more frequently but has more stops.
