Which airlines fly within Chile?

The following is a list of the airlines that currently operate domestic flights within Chile — a long and narrow country in western South America.

LATAM Chile

LATAM Airlines (LATAM Airlines Group S.A.) is an airline company headquartered in Santiago, in Chile (Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport). It is the largest airline in Latin America, with subsidiaries in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru. Within Chile, the airline mostly operates flights from its hub at Santiago, flying to the largest cities in Chile, as well as operating a few connecting flights between these secondary airports (la Serena to Calama, for example).

LATAM Express

LATAM Express is a subsidiary of LATAM Chile, and operates some of the domestic routes for its parent airline. LATAM Express is also based at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport.

Sky Airline

Sky Airline is a Chilean airline, operating scheduled domestic flights. It is the second largest airline in Chile. Like LATAM, the airline is based at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago, and also operates an extensive network with Chile. Destinations include Antofagasta, Valdivia, Osorno, Calama, Balmaceda, Antofagasta, Iquique, Copiapó, and Pucon.

JetSmart

JetSmart is a South American ultra low-cost carrier, based at Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Chile. As well as opening flights to Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Peru, the airline also operates domestic flights between cities within Chile. This includes Puerto Natales, Antofagasta, Copiapó, Calama, and Arica.

Aerovías DAP

Aerovías DAP is a Chilean airline, operating private charter and scheduled passenger flights. Based in Punta Arenas, the airline connects major cities within Chile, including Punta Arenas, Puerto Williams, Pampa Guanaco, Balmaceda, and Porvenir.

Why book domestic flights in Chile?

Chile is a long and very narrow country in South America. The unusual shape of the country means that it has over 3000 miles of stunning coastline, as well as diverse rainforests, and glacial peaks in Patagonia. The pink flamingo-filled lagoons in the northern deserts promise an unforgettable experience. Chile also has ownership over Easter Island, set far out into the Pacific, which has a rich history, culture, and landscape.

Because of its unusually long and narrow shape, navigating Chile by road can be challenging and time consuming. As an alternative, many choose to explore Chile by air, flying with one of the airlines that operate domestic flights within the country. If you’re heading to Easter Island, you’ll need to do so by air, as the island is extremely isolated and halfway across the Pacific Ocean.

What are domestic flights?

Domestic flights, or internal flights, are flights within a specific country's boundaries. For example, a domestic flight in Chile would be between Santiago and Puerto Natales — a flight which takes just over three hours and, as both cities are within Chile, it does not leave the country’s boundaries. Flights within one region of a country are also referred to as regional flights.

Busiest Domestic Airports in Chile

There are numerous airports across Chile, providing domestic and regional flights. FAQs

What is the baggage allowance on domestic flights within Chile?

Baggage allowance depends on the airline you are flying with and the airport you are flying from. Baggage allowance will be confirmed during the booking process, when it will also be possible to add extra baggage to your booking if required (airline depending). Be sure to check your baggage allowance with the airline you are travelling with directly or look at your e-ticket as sometimes the routes and aircraft that you may be flying on may mean the baggage allowance varies. It will also be important to check the width, height and length restrictions of the baggage before you arrive at the airport, or you may be charged an excess baggage fee.

What time do I need to check-in at the airport for domestic flights in Chile?

Check-in times vary and are based on the airline you are flying with and the airport you are flying from. For domestic flights, the advised check-in time is often a little later than it is for international flights as travellers normally need less time to get through the immigration and border controls at the airport.
