About Washington Dulles International Airport

Washington Dulles International Airport (IATA: IAD), often called Dulles International Airport or just Dulles Airport, is an airport located in and serving the Washington metropolitan area. Named after the 52nd Secretary of State, John Foster Dulles, this airport is located mainly in the Loudon County, with parts actually being in the Fairfax County.

The airport is the largest airport in terms of international passenger traffic in the Mid-Atlantic, outside the New York metropolitan area. It is also one of 3 major airports in the Baltimore-Washington area, with more than 60 thousand daily passengers flying to over 125 world destinations.

Dulles International Airport is located in Dulles, Virginia, U.S. It is located 26 miles outside of Washington, D.C., heading south. Although most of the airport is technically located within Loudoun Country, there is a small portion of the airport which is located in the neighbouring Fairfax County. Dulles Airport currently has 3 terminals which consists of a main terminal and two midfield terminal buildings.

Terminal 1 - The Main Terminal

Dulles Airport’s main terminal is recognised for its iconic design concept, with a suspended catenary unimpeded by support. The terminator was expanded in 1996 to double the space in the terminal.

Terminal 2 & 3 - The Midfield Terminals

The midfield terminals are made up of two linear satellite terminals. Concourses A and B are operated by all non-United flights, whereas Concourses C and D are solely used for United flights.

How to get to Dulles International Airport

By Road

Passengers can get to Dulles Airport via the Dulles Access Road/Dulles Greenway and State Route 28. There are many parking facilities in the airport, details of which can be found on the airport website directly. Passengers using single-occupancy vehicles using the VDOT will be charged a toll during weekday rush hours.

By Public Transport

Passengers can use the Metrorail which connects Dulles Airport to the Metro Silver Line with a convenient, economical solution of the Silver Line Express Bus.

There are also local buses which stop at the airport, such as the Fairfax Connector connecting the airport to Reston, or the Metrobus Route 5A which stops in Washington, D.C.

By Rental Car
