Ecojet, not to be confused with the Bolivian airline 'EcoJet', is a proposed regional airline that is to be based in Scotland, UK. The airline aims to be the world's first electric airline that will be powered by renewable energy and has a focus on making net-zero, emission-free air travel possible.

Dale Vince, the founder of Ecotricity, founded Ecojet in 2021 and aims to launch the airline in 2024. Ecojet's fleet will be made up of conventional aircraft that will be retrofitted with hydrogen-electric powertrains. Once these aircraft have been converted, they will operate with the same power output as before, but with a 100% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Ecojet plans to operate flights across the UK as early as 2024, starting with an Edinburgh to Southampton route. It hopes to expand to mainland Europe shortly after its launch.

As well as reducing the impact of the aviation industry on the climate, Ecojet will also serve plant-based meals and eliminate single-use plastic onboard.

Planned Destinations

Ecojet hasn't launched yet, therefore it's not known what destinations it will fly to. However, it has announced that its first route when it launches will be between Edinburgh (where it will be based) and Southampton, as well as other short routes around the UK.

Ecojet states that it hopes to expand to mainland Europe after it launches.

The airline hasn't launched yet therefore information on its baggage policies isn't currently available. Ecojet plans to operate two types of turboprop aircraft - one with a maximum capacity of 19 seats and the other with 70 seats.

This indicates that the airline may only allow passengers to bring one carry-on bag weighing up to 7-10kg.

Cabin Classes

Ecojet hasn't launched yet, but when it does, it only plans to operate short-haul routes within the UK first and eventually routes within mainland Europe.

Because of this, we can assume that the airline will operate a single-class configuration (economy) with basic seating and amenities.

Entretenimiento en vuelo

Ecojet hasn't launched yet therefore it's unknown whether it will provide in-flight entertainment onboard its flight. The flights it plans to operate will be short-haul (possibly up to 1 hour) meaning it may not offer in-flight entertainment.

To keep yourself entertained during your flight, we recommend bringing your own forms of entertainment such as a book to read or movies to watch on your personal device.

Food and Drink

Ecojet has announced that it will only serve plant-based meals onboard its flights - this is because of its aim to be as sustainable as possible, in line with it being the first electric airline in the world.

There is no specific information yet on what meals it will offer.

Please return to this page once the airline launches for more up-to-date information.

Información de registro

Check-in information for Ecojet flights isn't available yet because the airline still hasn't launched. It's not known whether Ecojet will provide an online check-in procedure when it launches.

As a general rule, when checking in at the airport, please arrive at the airport at least 2-3 hours before your flight is scheduled to depart. This is to ensure you enough time to check-in, clear security and reach your boarding gate.

Programa de viajero frecuente

It's not known if Ecojet will have a frequent flyer program or not as the airline hasn't launched yet.

Aeropuerto Principal

Edinburgh Airport

It is highly likely that Ecojet will use Edinburgh Airport as its hub. Edinburgh Airport is the busiest airport in Scotland, UK. There are currently no airlines that use Edinburgh Airport as its hub, however, it does serve major airlines like British Airways, EasyJet,, Ryanair, Loganair and TUI Airways, among others.

Ecojet aims to launch with a 19-seat Twin Otter aircraft before upscaling to a 70-seat Dash 8 airline a year after launch.

Once Ecojet launches, it will initially use traditional kerosene-fuelled aircraft before having these retrofitted into completely electric aircraft that produce zero emissions.
