Eurowings Discover is a new long-haul, low-cost airline. In 2020, Lufthansa announced it was planning on launching a new long-haul leisure subsidiary, which it was initially going to brand as ‘Ocean’ ('Ocean Airlines'). However, it was announced in early enero 2021 that the startup would, instead, launch under a new brand name: ‘Eurowings Discover’.
Eurowings Discover will operate flights to some of Eurowings’ more remote leisure destinations. The aim of the airline is to serve international destinations from Germany, including from Frankfurt and Dusseldorf. The new airline will directly compete with the already established German airline Condor Flugdienst, which also operates long-haul routes out of Frankfurt.
The airline will launch with three Airbus A330 aircraft and will be based at Frankfurt Airport.
Although a launch date has yet to be confirmed, the airline hopes to begin operations by the summer of 2021. To begin with, the airline will operate both long-haul and short-haul flights, adapting based on demand as the global travel industry emerges from the restrictions of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The airline has yet to announce which destinations it will fly to. Eurowings Discover has plans to fly from Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf to international destinations in Europe. More information has yet to be released.
The airline hasn't announced any carry-on baggage allowance yet.
Carry-on baggage will need to fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front. No prohibited items will be permitted as carry-on baggage. Please be aware that any prohibition items found by airport security upon the arrival airport could be confiscated. More information will be available in the airline’s terms and conditions.
Eurowings Discover has yet to announce what the checked baggage allowance will be for passengers.
Please note that any baggage that exceeds the airline’s baggage allowance will be subject to additional fees. When you book through Alternative Airlines, you can add additional baggage to your reservation at the time of booking.
Online check-in isn't currently available.
Passengers should arrive at the airport two hours before scheduled departure time to ensure plenty of time to complete check-in.
When passengers arrive at the airport, they are asked to report to the check-in desks, which will be labelled with the airline’s name and logo.
The aircraft will be drawn from the Lufthansa fleet. The branding and upholstery will be updated and switched to reflect the new brand, but the layout of the seats and configuration of the seating is set to remain the same as they already are. This will include keeping three cabin areas: Economy, Premium Economy, and Business. However, the airline has yet to release more information regarding what passengers can expect from their experience in each of the classes.
It hasn't yet been announced whether the Star Alliance membership will extend from Lufthansa to this new subsidiary. Lufthansa is a founding member member of Star Alliance, one of the largest airline alliances in the world.
There hasn't been any details on whether the airline would offer a frequent flyer programme for its passengers.
