Founded in 2011, Flyme is a Maldivian airline that offers domestic flights to a number of different Maldivan islands. From its base at Malé Velana International Airport, the airline operates scheduled services to five different destinations and irregular services to a number of different islands within the Maldives.
Flyme flights are operated by Villa Air, which is a subsidiary of the Villa Group. Flyme flew its inaugural flight using an ATR 42-500 in late 2011 with a service between Villa International Airport Maamigilli and Malé Velana International Airport.
Flyme's fleet is entirely ATR aircraft. The airline has a total of three ATR jets within its fleet. Flyme began operating with a singular ATR 42-500 until 2013 when it added an ATR 72-500. In 2017, the airline added its most recent jet — an ATR 42-500.
Flyme gives its passengers a free carry-on baggage allowance of 5kg. This baggage must fit within the dimensions of 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm and is strictly one piece of baggage per person.
Flyme gives its passengers a free checked baggage allowance of 20kg. This baggage must not exceed the combined dimensions of 160 cm. Flyme allows passengers to purchase additional checked baggage. However, one single piece of baggage cannot exceed 32kg in weight.
Flyme doesn't offer online check-in for any of its services.
Airport check-in is the only way to check-in for Flyme flights. Airport check-in can be completed by visiting one of the Flyme check-in agents at a check-in counter at the departure airport. Flyme check-in counters open two hours before scheduled flight departure time and close one hour before.
Velana International Airport, or Malé International Airport, is an international airport in the Maldives, the main gateway into the Maldives and the hub airport for Flyme. The airport opened in 1960 and was originally a small runway on a small section of land. However, as tourism has grown in the Maldives, the airport has been extended to facilitate the high volume of flights that it serves today.
Flyme has used Malé Velana International Airport as its hub airport since it commenced operations in 2011. Other airlines that use Malé International Airport as its hub include Maldivian and Trans Maldivian Airways.
