About Canadian Forces Base Goose Bay Airport
Canadian Forces Base Goose Bay, also known as CFB Goose Bay, is an airport owned by the Canadian Government and operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force. Although the airport is operated by the Air Forces, it also operates civilian operations, where it is primarily known as simply Goose Bay Airport.
The airport was adapted in 2012 to accommodate civilian use, with a new terminal being built. The airports IATA code is YYR.
The airport is often used by airlines as an unplanned fuel stop, especially by transatlantic flights who have experienced strong jet streams.
Air Labrador used to be a tenant of the airport, flying to remote destinations in Newfoundland, Labrador and Quebec before it ceased operations in 2017. Upon ceasing operations, it merged with Innu Mikun Airlines as Air Borealis, which still operate flights to this airport.
