Hong Kong Airlines Airbus A350 inflight Internet
Passengers travelling with Hong Kong Airlines can now connect to the Internet aboard its new Airbus A350 aircraft: currently darting between Hong Kong, Bangkok and Taipei, but soon stretching its wings to Los Angeles and San Francisco – longer flights where being online has much more appeal.
A range of plans are available, starting at 15 minutes of free surfing through to unlimited time and data for productive business travellers and social media enthusiasts.
Hong Kong Airlines Airbus A350 inflight Internet: plans
Whether you're connecting from a smartphone, tablet or laptop, four plans are available to choose from:
- Free WiFi: 15 minutes with no data limit but speeds capped at 64kbps, unlocked after you watch a short video
- Chat Pass (US$2.95): Unlimited time, 20MB data limit, speeds capped at 64kbps
- 1 Hour Pass (US$4.95): 60 minutes of continuous access, no data limit
- Flight Pass (US$11.95): Unlimited time and data on one flight
That's a great range of options and more than many other airlines provide, catering to a variety of needs: whether that's more data, more time or both, plus a no-cost option which allows you to try the service with no obligation, before considering a purchase of one of the paid plans.
We particularly appreciate that the 'Flight Pass' option doesn't have a data cap, so even though inflight Internet speeds aren't typically fast to begin with, syncing your email or downloading large files like PowerPoint presentations won't cause your connection to wind down early.

Hong Kong Airlines entering largest Asia-Europe market
Hong Kong to London is the largest market between Asia and Europe for total passengers and premium passengers. It is a logical destination for HNA's Hong Kong Airlines, which is embarking on long haul expansion and in Aug-2017 receives its first A350.
The Hong Kong-London market has nearly returned to its 2007 size, when Oasis Hong Kong briefly served the cities. Unlike Oasis, Hong Kong Airlines is a full service and network airline; Oasis only served London and Vancouver. Hong Kong Airlines will have a normal economy and business offering, unlike its all premium A330 Hong Kong-London Gatwick service in 2012.
In the last five years since its all premium folly Hong Kong Airlines has grown significantly and matured, although it still lacks a strong home market perception. Hong Kong Airlines can be expected to form a JV on the route, although it is unclear whether it will be able to command a yield premium.

Hong Kong Airlines launches own cadet pilot programme, the airline has announced
A lack of available qualified pilots has pushed Hong Kong Airlines to launch its own cadet pilot programme, in an effort to fill vacancies for its expanding fleet of aircraft.
With the mainland-owned airline expecting to increase its fleet size to 50 by the end of 2019 from 33 at present, it is partnering with a flight academy to begin training eight to 15 candidates this year.
Candidates will go through a 70-week training course, 15 weeks longer than its bigger rival Cathay Pacific Airways’ existing training programme.
The programme allows people with no flight experience to apply, and it costs Hong Kong Airlines about HK$1 million for each candidate.
“This is going to support career establishment of a new generation in Hong Kong,” Hong Kong Airlines vice-chairman Tang King-shing said at a three-day job expo which drew 4,000 job seekers on Friday. Tang retired in 2011 as the city’s police commissioner.
The training centre, which is located in New Zealand, is run by L3 Commercial Training Solutions.
Vice-president and principal of the training centre, Anthony Petteford, believed the location was better suited for potential pilots based in Hong Kong compared to Cathay Pacific’s flight training centre which is located in Adelaide in Australia.
“New Zealand weather is different from the weather in Adelaide, which means they actually get to fly in real weather, real clouds, get to experience all seasons, which means they will have skills in flying in real conditions,” he said.
Applications are open from Friday to the end of July. Applicants are required to fork out a non-refundable application fee of HK$3,000.
