About ITA Airways
ITA Airways is an Italian airline based in Rome, Italy. It's the flag carrier of Italy, replacing its predecessor, Alitalia. The airline uses Rome Fiumicino Airport as the main hub and flies to several different destinations across the world, including to countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Overall, the airline flies to more than 40 destinations, making it the main worldwide gateway into Italy.
The aim of the carrier is to be efficient, innovative and competitive in the aviation market, providing customers with the option to travel in their vast network, connecting many destinations in the world.
The decision for ITA Airways to takeover Alitalia as the flag carrier of Italy was made in 2020. Alitalia, which had previously been owned by the Italian government, had financial difficulty and was placed into administration. After no one would buy the airline, the Italian government decided to re-buy the airline and rebrand it as Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA).
The airline was originally supposed to be called Italia Trasporto Aereo (and is still its official name) up until just before its launch, when it was renamed ITA Airways. ITA Airways took over many of the assets of Alitalia, as well as many of its key routes.
ITA Airways flew its first-ever flight in octubre 2021, with a flight from Milan to Bari. Since then, it has expanded its route network in several phases. All of its route expansions have included more routes travelling within Italy, international flights across Europe, transatlantic flights to the Americas and even flights to destinations in East Asia, such as Tokyo.
Destinos
ITA Airways flies to both domestic and international destinations, all across the world.
ITA currently flies to just over 50 destinations. By 2025, the airline predicts that it will fly to more than 90 destinations.
