About LAB Airlines

LAB Airlines, also known as Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano, was the flag carrier airlines of Boliva from 1925 until it stopped all operations in 2010. LAB Airlines was headquartered in Cochabamba and used Jorge Wilstermann International Airport as its main hub, as well as Viru Viru International Airport. The airline was established in 1925 and was the second-oldest airline in South America after Avianca. LAB Airlines flew to many destinations in Bolivia and around Central and South America including La Paz, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Havana, Mexico City, Quito, Lima and Caracas. It also operated flights to the USA and Spain.

The airline first operated domestic routes in Bolivia from 1925. It then expanded its network and flew to international destinations from 1930. In 1941, LAB was taken over by the Bolivian government, becoming the country's national airline. In the 1990s, LAB Airlines had 1700 employees and served 36 destinations with its fleet of Boeing and Fokker aircraft.

In the late 2000s, LAB Airlines faced financial difficulties and had to terminate certain routes. In 2007, the government Bolivia decided to shut down the airline - it ultimately suspended operations in 2008 and had its airline licence revoked in 2010.
