What are leisure flights?
A leisure flight is a flight that a passenger takes when they're travelling for leisure purposes. Someone that flies on a leisure flight is usually taking a holiday, seeing friends or family or exploring new destinations. This is apposed to business flights, which is the name for when a person is travelling for work or to conduct business.
These flights could be a scheduled service, charter services or public charter service. They could be operated by Full-Service Carriers (FSC), Low-Cost Carriers (LCC) or charter airlines.
Are Leisure Flights scheduled flights or charter flights?
Leisure flights could be a scheduled or charter flight depending on the demand for the route and the airline's decision. There is a subtle difference between scheduled or charter flights in the passengers' perspective.
Scheduled flights are operated according to the timetable that the airline set-out. They are available for anyone to book the flights online and usually are not affected by the demand for the flight unless the airline deemed the route to be unprofitable.
Charter flights don't have a set of timetable unless it is a public-charter service. Charter flight is very reliant on the demand. Charter flights can be booked for groups, corporations, sports teams, etc. As an example, Rico Linhas Aereas, TUI Airways, Jet2, Eagle Air Guinea, Ultimate Air Shuttle and Advanced Air are all offering public charter services with limited frequency.
