About Lynx Air

Lynx air is a new airline based in the Canadian city of Calgary, Alberta. Although a new airline, it is actually a rebrand of a current one, Enerjet. Enerjet began operations in 2008 as it saw a gap in the market which was being underserved by both Air Canada and Westjet. The airline originally operated as a charter airline aiding with the transportation of oil workers across Alberta as well as a charter for tour and leisure operators. It was announced in noviembre 2021 that the airline was to rebrand the carrier and shift its business model. The airline has decided to adopt the Lynx Air branding and become an ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) aimed at travellers who don't frequently fly and who tend to use US airlines. Lynx will retire the current aircraft operated by Enerjet and has placed an order for 3 Boeing 737 max aircraft due to be delivered in 2022. Upon receiving the new aircraft, the airline intends to begin scheduled services. However, the proposed route map has not been disclosed by the airline as of yet.

Destinos

As the airline is in its infancy and plans for the rebrand and relaunch was only announced in noviembre 2021 a proposed route network is currently unknown. However, it is anticipated that numerous destinations in the US and Canada will be served as the airline aims at targeting Canadian travellers who use US airlines.

Equipaje permitido

Hand Luggage

Lynx Air has not disclosed the hand baggage allowance as of yet.

Checked Luggage

As the airline plans to operate within the LCC and ULCC market segment it is expected that checked baggage will be charged on some ticket types.

Travel Classes

The airline hasn't stated its intended travel class layout or products. However, the company has stated that they plan to offer 'à la carte pricing' where you can pay for additional extras and benefits if required. This is a similar pricing strategy utilised by other low-cost carriers like Ryanair and Southwest Airlines. However, as the airline hasn't formally begun operations it is known how their à la carte pricing and product will look.

Wifi & Entertainment

Lynx currently doesn't have the aircraft they intend to use within their fleet so it is unsure of the inflight entertainment offering. However, due to the airlines business model, it is expected that they will not provide any inflight entertainment, such as IFE screens. The airline may choose to install wifi onboard as an optional charge for passengers, however, this may be unlikely. An inflight magazine may be produced rolled out across their aircraft.

Check-in Information

Online

It is expected that due to the nature and location of the airline, online check-in will be available. This option may be included for all passengers free of charge, helping keep costs down and making the airline price competitive. However, as the airline hasn't begun operations or launched an e-commerce site details of this is speculative.

At the airport

The airline hasn't disclosed whether or not they will have check-in facilities at the airport. However, it is expected that they will but may come at an additional cost for some ticket types like seen on other low-cost carriers.

Programa de viajero frecuente

As Lynx Air intends to operate as a low-cost carrier it is not anticipated that they will offer a frequent flyer program, however, this could change upon launch of the airline.

Airline Alliances

It is not expected that the airline will be a member of any airline alliance, however, more details will be provided upon the formal launch of the airline.

Aeropuerto Principal

Calgary International Airport

The airline is an Albertan carrier intending to launch from Calgary. As the airline will be in its infancy, Calgary International Airport will act as the airline's hub airport. As the airline grows it may be expected that multiple hub bases will be opened, copying similar corporate strategies of other international low-cost carriers. Calgary International already offers multiple airlines and destinations at varying price points allowing a competitive environment for passengers. You are able to travel with Alaska, Condor, KLM, and more to a wide range of destinations including Frankfurt, London, Zurich, Amsterdam, Toronto, Seattle, Dublin, Vancouver, Chicago and more.

Flota

The airline has ordered a fleet of Boeing 737 max aircraft to begin deliveries in 2022. Currently, the airline has 3 aircraft on order but is hoped that this will increase dependent on the airline's success.

Alternative Airlines

The North American airline market is full of numerous competing carriers across both Canada and the US. You are able to travel on full-service carriers such as Air Canada, Westjet, American Airlines, United, Delta to a range of destinations across the continent. If travelling on a budget, there are already numerous airlines that cater to this including Flair Airlines, Southwest and Sun Country as well as leisure airlines such as Air Transat and Sunwing.
