Aeropuerto Principal
Malta International Airport
Malta International Airport, otherwise known as Luqa Airport, is the only airport in Malta and serves the whole of the Maltese Islands. Located in Luqa, the capital city of Malta, the airport serves as the main hub for Air Malta, the sister airline to Malta MedAir.
Starting off as Malta's first civil airfield in 1920, the airport has experienced major developments due to the increase in passengers arriving in Malta. In 1958, a new passenger terminal was inaugurated by the then Governor of Malta, Sir Robert Laycock. A new and longer runway was built in 1977 and in 1992 the current passenger terminal was inaugurated making the airport fully functional. After these developments, the old Luqa Airport was effectively shut down after 35 years of service.
The airport has its own VIP lounge, the La Valette Club, as well as other facilities including airside and landside shops, restaurants and other outlets.
