About Maluti Sky

Maluti Sky was an airline based at Moshoeshoe International Airport in Maseru, Lesotho's capital. In junio 2015, MGC Airlines rebranded as Maluti Sky.

Maluti Sky offered scheduled and charter flights and was founded in 2009 as a MGC Airline, becoming the first privately owned airline in Lesotho.

In mayo 2017, Maluti Sky announced it will terminate all operations with effect from mayo 1 2017, citing a difficult operating environment. Maluti Sky had struggled to compete with Airlink in the Maseru-Johannesburg O.R. Tambo market hence the decision to withdraw completely.

Flota

Maluti Sky's fleet consisted of Bombardier CRJ200, Eurocopter EC 135 and AS350.

In abril 2012, the airline received its first CRJ200 aircraft, followed by a second in 2013. The aircraft were initially used on charter flights and by other African airlines.

Maluti Sky has begun scheduled passenger operations as of marzo 29 having previously operated as a charter airline. Using CRJ-200ER ZS-NMJ, leased from parent MGC Airlines , MalutiSky currently operates Maseru-Johannesburg O.R. Tambo 5x weekly, weekdays only.

Sam Matekane, the chairman of the Matekane Group of Companies, said additional routes to Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban King Shaka would roll out later in the year. The carrier aims to save local Basotho the hassle of having to use Bloemfontein in South Africa for their air travel needs. Lesotho is a land-locked mountain kingdom which is completely surrounded by South Africa. As such, until MalutiSky's formal launch, Airlink was the only known scheduled operator to serve Maseru offering a 3 x daily return service to Johannesburg.
