Aeropuerto Internacional de Narita

 

Narita International Airport (IATA code: NRT) is also known as Tokyo Narita Airport, and is international airport serving the Greater Tokyo Area of Japan.

NRT handles about 50% of the country's international passenger traffic, and follows Haneda Airport as Japan's second busiest international airport.

Narita International Airport serves as the main hub of Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways. It is also a hub for low-cost carrier Jetstar Japan, Peach and Vanilla Air.

Location

 

The airport is located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) east of central Tokyo. The airport is in the Chiba Prefecture, near the border between the city of Narita and the town of Shibayama.

Currency Exchange and Banking: Facilities available throughout the airport. ATMs are also available throughout the terminals.

Showers and Nap Rooms: In Terminal 1 and 2 there are nap and shower facilities available.

WiFi: Available to purchase. Wi-Fi rental counters, as well as SIM-card sales counters, are only available before departure passport control.

Postal Services: There are postal drop-boxes within Terminal 1 and 2.

Narita TraveLounge: A pay-to-enter lounge, located in Terminal 1, in the Central Building, on the third floor. TEI Lounge: A pay-to-enter lounge, located in Terminal 1, in the Central Building, on the fifth floor. Runways

 

Narita has two runways: A and B. Runway A is 4,000m long and 60m wide, and handles about 135,000 flights a year. Runway B is 2,500m long and 60m wide, and handles about 65,000 flights a year.

Terminals

 

Narita International Airport features two passenger terminals and has aligned the construction of its terminals around the three major international airline alliances. SkyTeam carriers use the North Wing of Terminal 1, Star Alliance carriers use the South Wing of Terminal 1, and Oneworld carriers use Terminal 2.

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is divided into a North Wing, Central Building, and a South Wing and has a satellite design, with the Central Building in the middle. 

The first floor houses the international arrival lobby and domestic check-in counters. The second floor serves inbound passport control. The third is used for outbound passport control. 

Most of the terminal's shops and restaurants are also located on the fourth floor of the Central Building; the fifth floor also features an observation deck as well as additional restaurants and shops.

The North Wing has served as an alliance hub for SkyTeam since 2007. Aircalin, Hawaiian Airlines, Jin Air, and Etihad Airways are the only scheduled non-SkyTeam carriers operating from the North Wing.

The South Wing is a terminal for Star Alliance carriers and all Star Alliance members use this wing, along with non-members Air Busan, MIAT, Uzbekistan Airways.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is divided into a main building and satellite, connected by the Terminal 2 Shuttle System.

Japan Airlines is currently the main operator in T2. The terminal also serves as a hub for all oneworld alliance carriers. Other airlines also use the terminal, including SkyTeam carriers China Airlines and China Eastern Airlines, as well as Star Alliance carrier Air India. Oneworld Connect partner Fiji Airways and other non-affiliated carriers also use the terminal, including Air Macau, Air Niugini, Eastar Jet, Emirates, Pakistan International Airlines, Philippine Airlines and Scoot.

Terminal 3

This terminal opened in 2015 and is dedicated to low-cost carriers, including Jetstar Japan and Vanilla Air.

How to get to Narita International Airport

 

By Train

Narita Express runs from the airport via the Narita and Sōbu lines to Tokyo Station. The non-stop service takes 55 min from the airport to get to Tokyo and a single trip to central Tokyo costs ¥3,020; a trip to further stops can costs up to ¥4,620. Note that all seating is reserved.

By Bus

There are regular bus services to the Tokyo City Air Terminal, taking approx 55 minutes, stopping at major hotels and railway stations in the Greater Tokyo Area. There can be severe delays due to traffic. There is also overnight bus services to Kyoto and Osaka.

By Taxi

There is a fixed rate taxi service that can easily take you to top destinations, including Tokyo, Kawasaki, Yokohama, Yokosuka, and Miura for 14,000 yen – 40,300 yen (expressway tolls 2,250 yen – 2,850 yen not included). Taxi's are operated by Narita International Airport Taxi Council Members.
