Pegasus Airlines began on diciembre 1989 when two companies partnered with Aer Lingus to make a comprehensive tour charter airline called Pegasus Airlines. Service for Pegasus airlines started on abril 1990 with two Boeing 737–400s. In Greek mythology, Pegasus which means 'strong' was a horse with wings. Pegasus Airlines has been flying for 20 years and is Turkey's most established private airline. Pegasus Airlines has a fleet size of 83 and have placed on order 68 new aircraft.
Pegasus Airline hub airport is Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) and its focus cities are Adana Airport (ADA), Antalya Airport (AYT), Ercan Airport (ECN), Ankara Esenboğa Airport (ESB) and Amasya Merzifon Airport (MZH).
The airline has codeshare agreements with Alitalia, Flynas and KLM.
