Surinam Airways (also known by its initials (SLM) is the flag carrier of Suriname based in Paramaribo and is wholly owned by the Government of Suriname. The airline was established in 1953 to link small towns and now operates regional and long-haul scheduled passenger services. Some of the popular destinations covered by the airline include Amsterdam, Oranjestad, Port of Spain, Miami, Belem, Georgetown and Paramaribo. Surinam Airways has its hub airport at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (PBM) in Suriname.
The aircraft had been bought from KLM in 2004. It was replaced by the end of 2009 with a 317-seater Airbus A340 that previously belonged to Air France.
Surinam Airways flies to many destinations including Aruba, Belem, Willemstad, Cayenne, Georgetown, Amsterdam, Paramaribo, Port of Spain and Miami.

Flights between Paramaribo, Georgetown, Port of Spain, Curacao, Aruba, Miami, Belem, Cayenne, Miami-Orlando check-in starts 3 hours and ends 1 hour before the departure time of the flight. For Business Class and Online check-in, check-in is 90 minutes before departure of the flight.
Flights between Paramaribo to Amsterdam check-in begins 5 hours and ends 2 hours before the departure time of flight. For Business Class and Online check-in is 90 minutes before the departure time of the flight.
Surinam Airways ordered two Boeing 737-300 aircraft from AWAS to replace the McDonnell Douglas MD-82 in 2009. In November the same year, Surinam Airways retired the Boeing 747-300 from service.

Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (PBM) is the largest of the airports in Suriname and is the hub airport for Suriname Airways. The airport has one runaway.
