About Suvarnabhumi Airport

Suvarnabhumi Airport (IATA: BKK) is unofficially known as Bangkok Airport. It is one of the biggest international airports in Southeast Asia, and is one of two international airports in Bangkok, Thailand (the other being Don Mueang International Airport). Currently, the airport stands as the 21st busiest airport in the world, 11th busiest in Asia, and the busiest in Thailand. 2018 saw the airport deal with 63,378,923 total passengers and 369,474 aircraft movements.

After a series of delays in construction, the airport was officially opened on septiembre 2006, almost a year behind schedule. In the present day, it is now used as a hub for many airlines including Bangkok Airways, Jet Asia Airways, Thai Airways, Thai Smile and Thai Vietjet Air.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Location

The airport is located about 16 miles east of downtown Bangkok. It is in Racha Thewa in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan.


The airport has the world's fourth-largest single-building airport terminal, which measures over 6 million square feet. The modern building contains many things to keep travellers comfortable and happy whilst they wait for their flights.

There is only one terminal at this airport, but that does not mean the terminal is lacking. In fact, the terminal is one of the biggest terminals in the world, measuring over 6 million square feet. The terminal was designed by Helmut Jahn and constructed by ITO JV. The airport is designed in such a way that the daylight is maximised, keeping energy costs down. By Road

By car, you can access the airport with 5 main routes. The most convenient is the Bangkok Chon Buri Motorway (Motorway 7).

By Public Transport

The airport provides free bus services between BKK and Don Mueang Airport. There are also regional trains which connect the airport to nearby towns and stations.

By Bike

In 2015, the airport introduced a Sky Lane, a cycling-only track around the airport perimeters. People can bring their own bike or alternatively hire a bike for free.
