WestJet is a Canadian low-cost airline based in Calgary International Airport. The airline was founded in 1996 and was only serving five destinations with three aircraft. Decades later, the airline is now flying to more than 100 destinations in North America, Central America, The Caribbean and Europe with three aircraft types. It's the second-largest carrier in Canada, carrying over 66,000 people per day.
WestJet has three hubs in Canada including Calgary International Airport, Vancouver International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport.
WestJet has two subsidiary airlines including WestJet Encore and Swoop. WestJet Encore is a regional carrier operating smaller regional or domestic destinations for WestJet. They operate slightly smaller and efficient aircraft for its network. The aircraft that the airline deploys are Bombardier Q400s. WestJet Encore flights are operated by Pacific Coastal Airlines.

WestJet offers its passengers five different fare classes to choose from in the two cabin class they offer. These fare classes include Basic, Econo, Econo Flex, Premium and PremiumFlex. Basic, Econo, Econo Flex are seated in Economy Class whereas Premium and PremiumFlex are in the Premium Class.
Depending on the aircraft layout, Economy Class could be travelling in a 2 x 2, 3 x 3 or 2 x 3 x 2 configuration. Free drinks and snacks are available on domestic WestJet domestic flights, meals are also available to purchase onboard. Menus would be available in the seat pocket.
In-flight entertainment is available for passengers with WestJet Connect. Hundreds of hours of movies and TV series are available. If passengers wish to get connected online, WiFi is available with a fee. Please note that in-flight entertainment isn't available on WestJet Encore flights.
USB port is available at every seat for passengers to charge their personal devices.
Premium Class passengers would receive free drinks and light snacks onboard the aircraft. Premium domestic flights are in a 2 x 2 or 2 x 2 x 2 configuration.
Seats are equipped with 13.3" touch screens for in-flight entertainment on Boeing 787s with hundreds of hours of movies and TV series. WiFi is equipped onboard with a fee to stay connected in the air.
Premium Class seats are equipped with AC power outlet and USB port, so passengers can charger their personal devices including phones, tablets and laptops.
On all WestJet domestic flights, passengers have the choice to check-in online, at a kiosk or at the airport check-in counters.
Online check-in is available between 24 hours to 60 minutes before the established departure time. This is available via the airline check-in page.
Airport check-in counters and airport kiosks would be closed 45 minutes before the departure time. Please note that check-in kiosks may not be available at some airports.
It's recommended to arrive at the airport two hours before the scheduled departure time, in case anything happens. Any passengers who are not familiar with the departing airport layout are recommended to arrive at the airport earlier.
All WestJet domestic flights will have one piece of carry-on baggage and a personal item given to the customer.
Your carry-on bag cannot exceed 23kg and must fit within the dimensions of 21" x 15" x 9" (53 cm x 38 cm x 23 cm).
A personal item could be a laptop bag, a camera, a briefcase, etc. Carry-on baggage refers to a backpack, a bag or a small suitcase.
Passengers purchased Basic, Econo or Member Exclusive fare aren't entitled to free checked baggage, whereas, if you brought an EconoFlex ticket, you are given a free 23kg checked baggage allowance.
Premium and Business passengers are entitled to two free checked baggage for their flight as long as it's within the limitations.
Any baggage exceeding 32kg wouldn't be accepted by the airline due to international health and safety regulations.
If you are a Canadian citizen, then you'd only need valid Canadian government-issued identifications like citizenship card, permanent resident card, driver licence, birth certificate, etc.
However, if you are a foreign traveller, a passport is required. US citizens can travel with a U.S Permanent Resident Card.
Passengers are advised to arrive two hours before scheduled departure time to avoid any unexpected delays and allow plenty of time for check-in, to the boarding gate.
WestJet charge Basic, Econo or Member Exclusive passengers for baggage. Otherwise, passengers would receive at least one piece of checked baggage. Carry-on items are free of charge.
Depending on the fare class you've booked, you may be charged for checked baggage. Only passengers on EconoFlex, Premium and Business class are entitled to one piece of free checked baggage.
