About XL Airways

XL Airways France was a French airline based at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. XL Airways France also operated flights from Marseilles (to La Réunion and Punta Cana) and four other French airports (Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes and Toulouse, to Punta Cana). In addition to these regular flights, the airline also operated chartered flights all year round on behalf of the main French and European tour operators.

XL Airways France was founded in 1995 as Société de Transport Aérien Régeional and was trading under Star Europe. In 1997 the airline changes its name to Star Airlines and in 2006, the airline was rebranded to XL Airways France. In mayo 2017, XL Airways announced it is planning to expand its network to unspecified destinations in Asia. The French long-haul leisure carrier's CEO said he would wait for announcements from Air France for its launch network for new low-cost carrier Boost before making final decisions on the first Asian destination. XL Airways France plans to target both French tourists and incoming Asian customers travelling to France with its new services.

XL Airways France considers acquiring A321neo for TATL ops

The French airline's president has said it is considering acquiring an unspecified number of A321neo for transatlantic operations.

The President further said in an interview that the aircraft would be used to relaunch flights to New York JFK from secondary French cities. The large size of the aircraft had proven unfeasible.
They see America as a big destination to fly to and potentaially after two years, they will also be at other points in the United States. The ailrine are also considering whether to start some things from different cities in France to New York - fly Marseilles 3 or 4 years ago. This was not unsuccessful, however the aircraft was too large. With 400 seats, and commencing from Paris CDG is not an issue, but starting from the province, requires smaller aircraft, perhaps an A321.

La Compagnie, the sister airline to XL Airways, will add 2 A321neo from GECAS in April and septiembre 2019. They will be used to gradually replace its existing fleet of 2 B757-200s of which one will be retained at least until the end of 2019. The other will not be returned until 2021.
